Skin Care for Female AcneBy Matt Adler Taking care of your skin is vital for helping women with acne. Washing your face does not treat acne, but it can help prevent it from spreading and recurring. It is important to avoid frequent washing, which can dry out your skin. Vigorous scrubbing can also cause irritation which can worsen acne, and cause it to spread. Use soap free cleansers, and gently wash your face twice daily. Soaps and astringents can dry out your face. While these may help your face feel less oily, they do not actually hinder your skins oil production which is the cause of acne. Use only non-comedogenic make-up and other products, which will not cause break outs. Comedone literally means pimples, more specifically whiteheads and blackheads. These products will not have a greasy or oily feel to them. Moderate sun may help to lessen acne, but it does not treat it. It is important not to overexpose yourself to the sun, as this may cause skin damage or cancer. Excess sun exposure may temporarily dry your skin, but it can cause the skin to become oilier afterwards. Always use a non-comedogenic sun screen lotion with an SPF of 15. It can be beneficial to use a facial lotion with an SPF 15 built in every single day to protect against daily sun damage. Moisturizers are important to women with acne. Acne treatments can often cause the skin to dry out. Daily lotions help replenish lost moisture. Remember to use non-comedogenic lotions. While poor hygiene does not cause acne, neither does good hygiene treat it. However, a regular routine, gentle cleansing, and the right products can help improve female acne and prevent it from spreading. If your acne persists, visit a doctor to determine what female acne treatments are available.
