Can you answer Xman’s question about Acne?:

My step daughter is 9 years old and is starting to get pimples. Her mom had acne and is worried that her daughter will also have acne and wants to start her on Proactiv if her skin gets worse.

Acne Feedback: Proactiv is not helpful for pimples. If it gets very bad in her teen, she could try antibiotics, birth-control pills or Accutane (which cured me forever!). She can start with a mild cleanser for now, the one that was voted the best for acne is Cetaphil. You can do some research youself on this product. Works fantastically!

Acne Feedback: Depending on her hormone level she may be ready to use the product. Easy way to tell - look at her legs. It sounds crazy but are her leg hairs getting long to the point of almost ready to shave? If so then she would be ok to use it. If not she should start on just using a toning cleanser at night.

Acne Feedback: Speak to her pediatrician. Im pretty sure its any age, but at that young, you may want to be careful. Most kids that age dont care if they have pimples, and then dont use the product correctly. Its something that has to be carefully monitored.

Acne Feedback: I would wait on Proactiv, it was really harsh on my skin and if not washed of properly can cause lots of damage. Just try a mild cleanser for now and MAKE SURE she washes her face morning and night and tell her to try and not touch her face with her hands. It will help a lot.

Acne Feedback: I don’t think that she should be using that because it may be some other problems. She is too young. It is not good to start her so early and get her skin dependent on it. If she doesn’t continously use it for a long time, it will get worse. That is how the product works. I think that her mother should take her to the dermatologist before doing anything like ruining her skin for long term. They usually have special creams and soaps for kids that age. The product can be used at the age, but it is not recommended.
